Who can get Breast Cancer?
Tuesday, November 3, 2009 16:07Even though breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer, the exact causes are still unknown. But there are certain factors that may contribute to breast cancer. This article highlights some of the most common factors that may lead to breast cancer eventually.
•Research shows that age is one of the factors, breast cancer mostly occurs in women after menopause. So women above the age of 50 have more chances of getting breast cancer.
•If a woman has breast cancer once it is very likely that she may develop the same in another breast
•Genetics and family history also plays a keen role in breast cancer. So if the mother had breast cancer the chances of daughter developing it in the later age are very high. Apart from mother even if other relatives (from either side) have breast cancer it increases the probability of a woman having breast cancer
•If a woman has abnormal cells in the breast tissue then there are chances of them to be converted to breast cancer
•Women with early menstrual cycle (before the age of 12) have greater chances of breast cancer
•Menopause after the age of 55 also increases the risk of breast cancer
•If a woman has taken radiation therapy on the breasts to cure any other illness before she turned 30 then there are chances of breast cancer at later stage in life.
•Dense tissues in the breast also increase the probability of breast cancer
•If a female is overweight after menopause then there is risk of breast cancer
•Lack of activity can also cause breast cancer leading to obesity and weight gain
•Alcohol consumption after a certain level exposes females to breast cancer
•If a woman has taken DES during pregnancy then there are increased chances of breast cancer
•There is however no correlation between breast cancer and abortion.
•Research also shows that breast cancer occurs often in white women.
It may not be possible to avoid certain factors such as hereditary or genes but there are certain risk factors which should be consciously avoided to prevent breast cancer. Life today is full of stress and people are relying more and more on technology for everything. To remain healthy certain golden rules should be followed such as exercising, being active, living a healthy lifestyle, taking proper care of diet. If one is aware about the risk factors of breast cancer and is precautionary towards them then the chances of breast cancer are reduced. Adopting a positive attitude and taking care of your health, being aware of your body, and having an open mind towards diagnosis are some of the perfect ways to fight breast cancer. Breast cancer is curable but attempt should be made that it is prevented by being aware of it. The mental trauma of a breast cancer patient is higher than the physical trauma and hence attempt should be made to prevent breast cancer.
