A recent survey by UCLA study has come up with people’s obsession for weight and their efforts. It says that though media and our social and cultural surroundings emphasis on healthy lifestyle but it fails to encourage sedentary people to adopt healthy lifestyle and have daily regime for exercise.

A renowned journal Obesity in its June issue emphasis on the study that women consider themselves overweight compared to men. The racial group of African Americans is less in number considering themselves overweight compared to whites. Particularly men among adults with average to normal weight have weight problems owing to their sedentary lifestyle and lethargic way of living.

Obesity is a disease due to overeating and excess of energy intake. An obese person will be stout and the body weight will be more than that is expected for sex, age and height of the person. A person is said to be obese when more than 20% of the body weight is due to fat. Due to over eating, excess energy is converted to fat and is stored in the cell of adipose tissue located below the skin. As a result the size as well as the number of adipose cells increases. This results in an increase in the body weight and size, especially in circumference. Obesity is seen both in children and adults. Recent studies indicate that obesity is due to genetic defects and is inheritable.
