Breast Cancer – Symptoms and therapies

Hi Guys, I came across some medical issues about breast cancer. Thought I would inform you about it.

Breast cancer is one of the oldest forms of cancers known to human kind, its first occurrence and detection goes back to 1600 BC in Egypt.
Thousands of women die every year around the world due to breast cancer. Research shows beast cancer is only second to lunch cancer in terms of death taking cancer. Maximum women die every year in U.S due to breast cancer. Since last ten years awareness about breast cancer has increased and this along with advancement in medical technology has helped to bring the death rate down. There are different types of breast cancers which include DCIS (ductal carcinoma in Stiu, IDC (Invasive ductal carcinoma), recurrent breast cancer, inflammatory breast cancer, metastatic breast cancer and ILC (Invasive Lobular carcinoma) to name a few. Breast cancer is mostly found in women aged between 45 to 55 years old.
The various symptoms of breast cancer encompass:

•Lumps in the breast or armpit that is different from other tissues in the breast (This is the most common symptoms and about 80% of the breast cancer cases are detected through this symptoms)
•Swelling in the armpit
•Sudden changes in the breast size or breast shape
•changes in the skin
•Change in the consistency of the breast tissue
•Rash
•Pain in the nipple
•Retracted nipple
•Discharge from the nipple, this can be blood or some clear fluid
•Itching, augmented sensitivity, burning, and pain in the nipples and breast

It is said that prevention is better than cure. In case of breast cancer early detection can save the patient from going extreme painful process and conditions. Experts highly recommend self exam for breasts for women above the age of 40. Annual checkups that involve use of mammogram are also recommended for women between the age of 45 and 55 since most patients fall in this category. The diagnosis of breast cancer can take several weeks involving various kinds of different tests. Depending on the patient’s conditions the doctors can recommend necessary treatment. The common tests for breast cancer includes

•Mammograms, one of the most common screening tools recommended to women above the age of 40 for general screening
•MRI
•Breast self examination , recommended to every female after certain age
•PET scans
•CAT scans
•Ultrasound
•Clinical breast exams
•Breast Magnetic Resonance Imaging
•Genetic screening with breast cancer in family
•Fine Needle Aspiration and Cytology to tests the fluid
•Others

Some of the most common causes of breast cancer are believed to be genetic and hormonal. Doctors use the different staging system to describe the extent and spread of the cancer and provide diagnosis relative to that. The application of treatment depends on the spread and stage of brast cancer. Some of the treatments of breast cancer include use of

•Radiotherapy
•Chemotherapy
•Mastectomy
•Hormonal therapy
•Biopsy, this involves removing the cancer portion from the breasts

Medical research and awareness has brought tremendous reduction in breast cancer rate and little alertness helps one to cope with it with strength and efficiency.
